Mrs. Malcom : Language Arts

These are a few of the learning activities your child will be responsible for in order to become proficient in reading and writing at the 2nd grade level, exceed grade level expectations, or simply improve upon his/her skills.

       Students will be required to complete the assignments on the weekly                         Spelling/Reading Contract

       Students will be required to check out two library books each week from our              school library. At least one of those books must be a book at their reading level              (determined by STAR reading exam)

       Students are strongly encouraged to read independently each day at school and at         home (may participate in Pizza Hut Book It program, take AR tests, etc.)

       Students will write daily:
                -students will have opportunities to write independently through journaling
                -students will experience guided writing instruction through modeling                              from the teacher, specific grammar skill instruction and assignments
                -students will have opportunities to share their writings through publishing                      activites, classroom "Author's Chair", displaying writings in school hallways                  as well as the Parent Newsletter
