Second Grade News
I am enjoying getting to know your children.
We are off to a good start for the new school year. We have been
busy learning our daily schedule and getting used to the second grade
curriculum.
We have some special activities coming up: First, on October 7th,
we will be walking to the Fire Station and City Offices for Lexington.
We will learn more about fire safety and about our city
government. This is during National Fire Safety Week. Our
goal is to help children become better prepared for what to do in case
of a fire, and to learn a little about how the Lexington City
Government operates. Be sure to watch the weather and have your
children dress appropriately for our walk - we are just a few blocks
from the Fire Station/City Offices.
Sometime in October we will be going to the Denker Farm, just North of
Lexington, to watch corn being harvested and then processed into feed
for the cows in their feed lot. It is quite a learning experience
for all of us and a great follow-up to our studies on plants in
Science. We will be letting you know what day this will
be. As soon as the Denkers start harvesting they'll let us know.
On October 19th we will be going to the Harvest Moon Farms in
Amherst to visit their pumpkin patch and learn about pumpkins and their
uses. They also have many fun activities there for the children
to participate in. All three second grade classes
will ride the bus to the farm. I'll be letting you
know more about this later.
