The ABC's of Second Grade |
|
   Second Grade is a year of many new discoveries. I love Second Grade and I know you will too!
 
Here's what's going on in our classroom!
Saxon Math-
- We will learn many new math concepts.
- We will be telling time, counting money, adding, subtracting, estimating, fractions, measurements, calendar skills, and much more.
Saxon Phonics-
- We will learn how to read many words.
- We will apply phonics skills when reading and writing.
- We will also learn many sight words that we will read in our books.
Language Arts-
- Wonderful books will be read in Guided Reading.
- Reading and writing strategies will be taught and practiced.
- Students will publish their own poems, short stories, and biographies.
Science-
- We will learn about plants, animals, planets, and much more.
- We will also have a chance to be scientists and try many experiments.
Social Studies-
- We learn about families and traditions.
- We will learn more about reading maps and using map skills in our everyday lives.
Word Wall Words-
- We have many words we will read and spell in Second Grade.
- We will learn five new words every week.
- We take our Word Wall test every Friday.
- Remember to practice spelling your words every night!
Here are a few ways to practice your spelling words at home. - Write each word 5 times.
- Colorful words- write each word with a crayon three times.
- Spell each word out loud.
- Write each spelling word in a sentence.
- Write the words in ABC order.
- Type each word three times each.
- Write the words in two different colors (vowels one color, consonants in another color).
