Lexington
was once a trading post along the Oregon Trail. In 1864 the Plum Creek
Massacre occurred, the trading post was destroyed. The trading post was
rebuilt into Fort Plum Creek. When the Transcontinental Railroad was
finished the fort grew into a town. New homesteaders and ranchers
started to move in. The town was named Lexington after the famous
Revolutionary War.
