Kay Linch Memorial Scholarship

DESCRIPTION

The family of Kay Linch has established a scholarship in memory of their wife and mother.  The Lexington Community Foundation will administer the $500 annual scholarship that will be awarded to a Lexington High School senior who enrolls in any university, college or technical school in a public service field of study.  Areas of public service may include, but are not limited to, law enforcement, education, firefighting and nursing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Consideration for the scholarship will be given to any graduating senior who shows qualities of good character, leadership, academic achievement, financial need and participation in extra-curricular and community activities.

INSTRUCTIONS

Each applicant should complete the common application.  
The applicant must also provide three letters of recommendation.  Two are to be completed by instructors whose class the applicant has completed or in which he/she is currently enrolled.  Letters from faculty should address:
1.    student≠s ability;
2.    attendance;
3.    work ethic and study habits;
4.    citizenship;
5.    willingness to give best effort;
6.    Does the student have the ability, aptitude and work ethic to meet his/her career goals?  (yes or no).  If no, please explain.

The third is to be completed by an adult designated by the applicant outside of the school, other than a relative.  
Include a recent photograph with your application.   The completed application should be submitted to the counselor by the deadline established by the school.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.  The scholarship will be awarded at Honors Night.

PAYMENT

Payment of this scholarship will be made after successful completion of the first semester and enrollment in the second semester of the freshman year.   All payments will be made directly to the college, university or technical school.
