Local Scholarship Instructions 2008

1.  The local scholarship list will be handed out February 21.

2.  Each student needs to read through the list of scholarships and determine the ones for which you qualify.

3.  To actually find the scholarships you are interested in, go to our web site:  http://teachers.esu10.org/hscounseling ; Go to scholarships page > Local Scholarships Page and Lexington Foundation Scholarship Page.  These two pages will show all the local scholarships for which you can apply.

4.  Many of the local scholarships require a common application.  The common application form is located at the top of the Local Scholarship page.  You can fill out one common application form, simply rename it for each scholarship and then print the common application.  Follow the instructions on each scholarship exactly.  Each year some students lose scholarship opportunities because they don't follow the instructions for that particular scholarship.

5.  The Lexington Foundation has local scholarships for which you can apply.  These scholarships require a separate application for each scholarship.  Follow the directions for each scholarship and follow them exactly.

6.  The essay on why you want the scholarship should be carefully constructed.

7.  The local scholarships are due on Thursday, April 3 at 8:00 a.m. in the Guidance/Counseling office.

8.  Start early.  Talk to teachers and others for recommendations.  They will respond much better to you.

9.  Set up a plan to do some scholarships each week.

10.  Almost every local scholarship requires recommendation letters (usually 3 for each scholarship).

11.  Each student can only win one local scholarship.  We will give the student the highest valued scholarship.  The only exception to this would be if all the students that applied to a particular scholarship had already received a scholarship and then a student could win two local scholarships.

12.  Almost every local scholarship requires the following:
    1.  Cover sheet
    2.  Application Page
    3.  Resume (List of activities)
    4.  Transcript
    5.  3 Letters of recommendation
