Principal's Page

Welcome to Windy Acres Elementary School.  My name is Julie Otero and I am the principal at Windy Acres.  I invite you to check in periodically to learn about events, activities, and the student learning that will occur all year long at the school. 

Several programs will continue at Windy Acres and district-wide for the 2008-2009 school year:

• Kindergarten through Algebra I students use the Saxon Math Program for learning the district's Standard Based Math Curriculum.  Each grade level's weekly progress toward learning the end of the year key concepts is charted on a weekly basis through a process called LtoJ® weekly math quizzes.  Each grade level's math key concepts are available on the school's website.

• All grade levels of students are participating in the School Improvement Goal of increasing literacy.  Students also take weekly LtoJ® quizzes on grade level vocabulary words.  Each grade level's list of vocabulary words are available on the school's website as well.
  

• ConnectEd is a program that sends messages to parents' home phone, cell phones, or e-mail addresses.  The messages will come from either the Superintendent, Director of Education, or Principal and is intended to keep communication between the school and home seamless. 

• Windy Acres has the common district-wide goal to provide all students with a safe and productive learning environment.  Windy Acres' teachers have implemented a common expectation of classroom behaviors using a program called Behavioral Intervention Support Team (BIST).
