About Our School
School Information Windy Acres Elementary School, formerly
known as Dawson County District 17, was assimilated into the Lexington
Public School District as a result of LB126, which abolished Class 1
school districts throughout Nebraska. Windy Acres became part of the
Lexington system prior to the beginning of the 2006-07 school term.
The school is located in a rural area five miles east of Lexington.
Windy Acres serves children in grades K through five in three
multi-grade classrooms, K-1, 2-3, 4-5. A part-time teacher provides
instruction in health, music, and physical education. Children with
verified disabilities receive appropriate services based upon their
specific needs. Transportation is provided for students who meet
eligibility requirements.
School Improvement Goals Beginning with the 2006-07 school term, Windy Acres Elementary School became part of the Lexington Public School system. Lexington Public Schools have a district wide school improvement goal. The goal states "All schools will increase literacy skills across the curriculum". Windy Acres Elementary is pursuing this goal in collaboration with other schools in the district. Vocabulary development is a focus of the school improvement effort. The district has implemented a program to improve vocabulary as one of several interventions to achieve the literacy goal. The vocabulary development program has been successfully incorporated into the school improvement process at Windy Acres Elementary in its first year as part of Lexington Public Schools.
